Prayer & Worship

As baptized believers in Christ, all of us are part of the worshiping community. Becoming involved in any of the following worship ministries can make participation in the Mass more meaningful.

Girls and boys who have completed fourth grade and older may assist the priest at Mass. Training is provided at various times throughout the year. Please contact Savannah Harper at (717) 201-6538 or e-mail

Training is provided through the Diocese at various times and locations throughout the year. They assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass, and in taking Communion to the sick, shut-ins, nursing homes, and hospitals. Please call or e-mail the parish office if you are interested in this vital ministry.

Lectors proclaim the word of God at the Sunday and weekday liturgies. Please contact the parish office if you’re interested in becoming a lector.

Members of this ministry lead the congregation in sung prayer at Sunday and Holy Day masses and other celebrations throughout the year.  Members include organists, pianists, guitarists, other instrumentalists, cantors, and members of the St James Folk Group.  For more information, or to participate, please contact Fran Bingham at 627-0595 or e-mail

One Sacristan is needed for each Mass (both weekday and weekend) celebrated at St. James. Two Sacristans are needed for each funeral service. A Sacristan also helps prepare for the Sacraments of Baptism, Matrimony, etc. We are in need of more people to help get the altar and church ready for Mass. Please call Kathy Cardos 627-1201, if you’re interested in helping. You will learn a lot about the altar and traditions of the church.

The Ministry of Ushers is in need of help. This ministry is open to both men and women, and we can also use responsible youths. Ushers are needed at all the Sunday and Holy Day Masses, but there is a special need for assistance at the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass. You may volunteer as little or as much time as you like. Please contact Carmen Sliko at 626-1805 or e-mail Thank you for any help you can give.
