Daily Readings for Advent 2006

The following readings are taken from the Liturgy of the Word of the Mass for each day of Advent. We encourage you to read them at home as part of your daily Advent Prayer. A suggested use is to read the scripture citation during the lighting of the Advent Wreath each day.

Advent Wreath Prayer Service

Sign of the Cross

Opening Prayer

Lord God, let your blessing come upon us as we light the candles of this wreath.
May the wreath and its light be a sign of Christ's promise to bring us salvation.
May he come quickly and not delay.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Silent Reflection

Our Father

Concluding Prayer

Father in heaven, our hearts desire the warmth of your love and our minds are searching for the light of your Word.
Increase our longing for Christ our Savior. Give us the strength to grow in love so that when he comes we may rejoice in his presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen

An Advent Prayer

Sign of the Cross

Father, in the wilderness of the Jordan you sent a messenger to prepare people's hearts for the coming of your Son. Help me to hear his words and repent of my sins, so that I may clearly see the way to walk, the truth to speak, and the life to live for Him, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen
